Jalapeno Cucumber Lemonade
Any time we make a recipe, we try to look at the benefits of the individual ingredients. While food is enjoyable, it's supposed to be fuel for our bodies.
Benefits of Lemons
Lemons are loaded with Vitamin C! One lemon provides about 31 mg of vitamin C, which is 51% of the recommended daily intake.
Have you ever noticed when you eat lemons, you feel full for longer periods of time? The soluble pectin fiber in them expands in your stomach, helping you feel full for longer.
Benefits of Cucumbers
Cucumbers are high in many important vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Magnesium, Potassium, and Manganese. The water content in cucumbers is high, which helps promote regular digestion. They also are high in antioxidants – which have many benefits themselves!
Many people believe cucumber water can help you lose weight. We like cucumbers for the benefits listed above moreso than for weight loss, but it's worth a shot. 😉
On all of the Weight Watchers plans, cucumbers are zero points. Adding flavor and crunch to salads without adding hardly any calories is a great way to make a new, exciting meal without having to add points.
Benefits of Jalapeños
Some studies show jalapeños fight cancer. This delicious, Zero Point food is low in calories and full of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. A medium-sized jalapeño has anywhere between .01 grams and 6 grams of capsaicin.
Capsaicin is an anti–inflammatory that has been used for arthritis and nerve pain. Our Mom makes a lotion/rub with jalapeños and it is awesome for pain!
Start with small amounts of jalapeno and gradually add more until you find just the right level of spice. It’s a lot easier to add more than it is to adjust everything else to compensate for too much heat.
